Conducting research under the direction of a faculty member is a rewarding experience and a valuable component of undergraduate education. Many students receive credit for research as part of an independent study course, and students may be eligible to apply for Undergraduate Research Stipends.
Students interested in exploring research opportunities should talk to a faculty member in their area of interest.

Research and Student Engagement Expo
The 2025 Research and Student Engagement Expo will be held Tuesday, April 15, 2025 from 12:30-2:30 p.m. in the Penn State New Kensington Athletic Center.
Students will present posters documenting their original research, accomplished under the supervision of faculty mentors.
As part of the Expo, the annual Career Connections Day at PSNK will also occur and feature more than 20 local employers with internship and job opportunities open for students!

Forty-one students presented 36 research projects at the 21st Annual PSNK Research and Student Engagement Expo on April 11. Each project included poster presentations documenting the research, which was accomplished with assistance of faculty mentors throughout the 2022-23 academic year. The event also included a feature of several faculty research projects, as well as the return of Career Connections Day with more than 10 employer and internship providers from the area.
Ally Albert, a student at Penn State New Kensington, presents her research project at the 2023 Research and Student Engagement Expo at the campus. Albert presented two undergraduate research projects at the event, and was also named a recipient of an Information Literacy Award from the University Libraries and the Entrepreneurial Spirit Award from the campus' innovation hub, The Corner.

Samuel Ramsey, an electro-mechanical engineering technology student at Penn State New Kensington, explains coding done to a FANUC cobot at the campus' Digital Foundry at New Kensington during the 2023 Research and Student Engagement Expo. Ramsey, along with his peers Josephine Heim and Alexander Ivory, showcased their "YahtzBot" automated robot demonstration at the event.
